Many people are unaware of the issue of the increasing amount of youth in the prison system. In 2000, there were 2.4 million arrests in the U.S. of people under the age of 18.[1] In 2008, In 2008, 2.11 million youth were arrested. A majority of these crimes are theft related. In D.C. the juvenile facilities are overcrowded passing its capacity limit.[2] This is a major problem for D.C. and Justice not juniors is doing their part to help. This includes a panel discussion, a walk around campus, and mentoring program on the weekends. For more information on the Juvenile system go to: http://ojjdp.ncjrs.gov.
